Side Entry Routes ISO/IEC 20000

Side Entry Possibilities for EXIN’s IT Service Management (according to ISO/IEC 20000) qualification program.

The qualification program IT Service Management according to ISO/IEC 20000 offers a wide range of side entry routes to participants already possessing certificates in IT Service Management or Auditing making it an ideal addition to previous experience and skills. IT professionals who already hold relevant certificates have the option of entering the program at all levels.

Due to the large amount of options, EXIN has developed a Side Entry Calculator to let you find out which exemptions are possible. Here are a few of the options listed below:

I hold an ITIL Foundation certificate (ITIL® V2 or V3). What exemption is possible?
Your knowledge of IT Service Management is approximately at the same level as that of the Foundation certificate in the ISO/IEC 20000 program. If you have learned the required knowledge of management systems for ITSM and the ISO/IEC 20000 standard via a training or self-study, you can take the ISO/IEC 20000 Foundation Bridge exam (a 20-questions multiple choice exam), instead of the ISO/IEC 20000 Foundation exam itself to obtain the Foundation Certificate in ITSM according to ISO/IEC 200000.

I hold an ITIL Service Manager certificate (ITIL® V2). What exemption is possible?
As above, if you want to become a Consultant/Manager in IT Service Management according to ISO/IEC20000 (IS20CM), the missing part is mainly in the area of management and improvement of the ITSM processes according to the ISO/IEC 20000 standard. Taking the ISO/IEC 20000 Foundation Bridge exam and obtaining the Professional Certificate in Management and Improvement of ITSM processes according to ISO/IEC 20000 (IS20PMI), will fill in the knowledge gaps. After having successfully passed both the Foundation (Bridge) exam and the IS20PMI exam, you are eligible to receive the IS20CM certificate. Please see below for instructions on obtaining your Consultant/Manager certificate.

I hold an ITIL Practitioner certificate (ITIL® V2). What exemption is possible?
You may use the ISO/IEC 20000 Foundation Bridge exam to obtain the Foundation Certificate in ITSM according to ISO/IEC 20000. This certificate plus the ITIL® Practitioner certificate entitles you to order the corresponding Professional Certificate in ITSM according to ISO/IEC 20000:

  • Practitioner: Release and Control is equivalent with ISO/IEC 20000 Professional: Control of IT Services
  • Practitioner: Support and Restore with ISO/IEC 20000 Professional: Support of IT Services
  • Practitioner: Plan and Improve with ISO/IEC Professional: Delivery of IT Services
  • Practitioner: Agree and Define with ISO/IEC 20000 Professional: Alignment of IT Services

Please see below for instructions on obtaining your Professional certificate.
